Charlie Mitchell
Chef Charlie Mitchell made history in 2022 as the first Black Michelin-starred chef in New York City and only the second Black executive chef in the nation to achieve this prestigious accolade. Inspired by his grandmother's culinary passion, Charlie embarked on a journey into the world of fine dining, eschewing formal culinary education for hands-on experience in some of Detroit's top restaurants. His career took a transformative turn when he joined the renowned Eleven Madison Park with three Michelin stars. Eventually, Charlie became the executive chef and owner of Clover Hill in Brooklyn Heights, which initially opened in 2019 and regained acclaim post-pandemic. Clover Hill's upscale American cuisine earned a Michelin star, drawing increased reservations while maintaining a commitment to top-notch service and ingredient-focused dishes. Notably, Clover Hill is situated in a predominantly white neighborhood, and Charlie aspires for his success to encourage more people of color to open businesses in the area, marking a significant shift in culinary diversity and inclusion.
